Do you enjoy the freshness of the early day, or prefer the warm light of evening? Whether early or late, the best time to make photographs is when the sun is low. All our tours are timed to catch the golden light. Each half-day tour lasts at least four hours and will be customized to give you a memorable experience. Full-day packages include both morning and afternoon tours for a total of eight or more hours. Or, you can combine the afternoon and night sky tours. All of our tours are private, with single participants or small groups of no more than four persons.

Our tours start and end at our Printworks Gallery in Moab. These are not four-wheel adventure or hiking tours. All locations are reached via paved or graded roads, and although walks up to a mile or so may be involved, no extensive hiking is required. This is to allow the most time for actual photography and instruction. To book your tour, email us at moabprintworks@gmail, or call the number below.

Half Day Tours

Our morning tours start when dawn begins to lighten the sky. We’ll go to a special place to catch the rising sun, whether in Arches or Canyonlands, or the glorious viewpoints at Dead Horse Point. Or you may choose to be in Castle Valley or at nearby Fisher Towers. We’ll visit other sites to document the coming day.

Afternoon tours are all about the anticipation of the Golden Hour. We’ll start about three or four hours before sunset to visit scenic viewpoints as the afternoon winds down. We’ll end up at a spectacular place to witness the sunset and watch night begin to creep across the land.

Our complete Dark Sky tours include sunset, blue hour and night sky shooting, generally lasting until about midnight.

Half-day tours are priced at $345. Additional photographers will pay $195. Non photographers are welcome and will pay an additional $65 each. A combined afternoon half-day tour with night sky extension is priced at $520 for one person. Additional photographers will pay $290 and non-photographers will be charged $95. Night Sky Tours

The Moab area is one of the few remaining dark sky locations in America, and combined with our amazing landscapes it is a great place to do after-dark photography. Our Night Sky Tours start at sunset and extend through the blue hour until the full glory of the night sky appears. These generally last until about midnight. As always, instruction is included. A night sky adventure is priced the same as a half-day tour. You can combine a half-day afternoon with a night sky extension as described above.

Post Processing Instruction

When your photo tour ends you’ll have a memory card filled with new image files, but what next? If you’re not sure, take advantage of our free follow-up service on how to process your files. You’ll meet David or Mark at their studio/gallery on the following day or later in the week for up to an hour of one-on-one basic instruction in how to edit, enhance and print your pictures. We’ll help you evaluate your shoot, show you how to process RAW files, and apply some basic Photoshop tools to enhance and improve your images. There is no extra charge for this service.

If you want to dive deeper, sign up for our half-day post-processing workshop with Mark to learn even more about how to make your images special. He’s a master of Photoshop and will show you how to make your best pictures even better. You’ll learn how to use layers, masks, outlining, compositing techniques and many other tools to make creative effects. This private four-hour in-depth post-processing workshop is limited to one person and costs $295.
